The Aruch La’Ner teaches:
When Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos and the shofar is not blown, the outcome of the year depends on how carefully we safeguard Shabbos.
When Klal Yisroel keeps Shabbos properly, Shabbos itself becomes our defender.

Chazal do not tolerate the slightest chance that even one Jew may inadvertently carry on Shabbos.
This year, let us strengthen our Shabbos—and let Shabbos protect us.
